Why is o2 significantly faster than sky

Hi

I'm new to the forums after switching from sky to o2. I've just got a quick question really.

I swtiched from Sky mid to o2 standard, and my initial speed has increased from 700 up / 3400 down on sky to 918 up / 5198 down on o2.

I know it is still running DLM, but has been running for 48 hours now and these speeds haven't changed in that time. My line stats were always good with sky, yet that is the maximum speed they say was supported on my line.

I was pleasantly suprised at the speed i first connected at on o2, and just wondering if there was a reason for the big difference. Nothing else has changed with internal wiring or filters etc. It's exactly the same as it was with Sky.

On a slightly different note, how brilliant are o2 customer service and sales staff compared to sky . Wish i'd changed months ago, i'm very impressed.

thanks
gary

im gonna do the exact same thing and leave sky but to answer your question its all to do with the different equipment they use at the exchange! and also BE/O2 are far more dedecated to the service they provide

excellent summing up

I switched from sky to o2 last wednesday. I was synched at just over 5 meg and it was steady at that for about 48 hours. Im finding it resynchs now lower, its currently just over 4meg and noise margin down at 9.5 attenuation at 50. I can reboot the router and it jumps back up to 5 meg for a while the resynchs. I will wait and see how it gets on after the first 10 days. It is generally quicker than sky but im finding pages today are hanging and xboxlive is poor, anybody else noticed this today?

Re: Why is o2 significantly faster than sky

I tend to use opendns instead of the o2 dns servers, they are fairly fast even in peak times and if they do fall over I can swap back to the o2 default ones.

As for Xbox Live has MS been cheap and not bought enough bandwidth in peak time again?

Re: Why is o2 significantly faster than sky

You can change it on Windows (or on your Xbox) which will override the router.

Go to https://www.opendns.com/start/ and follow the instructions for changing it on your PC.

They describe how to do it much better than I can.
