I had been experiencing sudden drops in connectivity of my internet for couple of minutes only to restart on its own. I called the customer service today and the tech support changed my default gateway.
He explains that there is a firmware bug which prevents router to connect to the dns server, O2 are looking at a fix which should roll out soon. Thought will update all in case anyone noticed similar issue. Also happy with the technical support provided, thanks O2 |

Why not give openDNS a try?

Re: o2 router buggy firmware
Thanks for the info. I've seen a few instances where O2 customers have had issues with lease renewal but that's a dchp issue not DNS. Don't recall seeing mention of a router bug affecting DNS.
Never had a problem for the few days I used the O2 router but didn't really like it as much as my old Sky Netgear V1 - so I flashed that with generic Netgear firmware and now use it instead. Works faultlessly. You used to be a Sky customer didn't you jemmy? If you still have your old Sky router and depending on the model, why not give it a try? Re: o2 router buggy firmware
Any speed difference between the O2 and netgear router? and what make is the O2 router?

Re: o2 router buggy firmware
The O2 routers are Thomson Speedtouch in various versions.
Some people claim that routers with Broadcom chipsets perform best on O2's network (the Thomsons and the Netgear DG834GT are Broadcom based for example) but I don't think there's any hard evidence for that. If I had to chose one for speed I'd say that my Netgear syncs slightly faster than my O2 Box but the difference is marginal and not clear cut. |

Re: o2 router buggy firmware
Just spoke to O2 this morning and have been told they've found a fix and have been testing, hopefully will be rolled out in the next couple of days.
They've said again it isn't a dns issue but a problem with the default gateway and either changing dns servers or pinging the secondary gateway seems to sort the issue out |
