Re: How to use your own router with O2 Broadband

Thanks - I'm pretty sure the settings are right so I'll try leaving the router on and plugged in for a longer period and see if that sorts it.

Should I go back to the router's original MAC addresss or stick with spoofing it the O2 wireless box's number?

Just leave the mac address as default. If it doesn't connect after an hour or so then it's not an authentication issue.

If it's not an authentication issue and your settings are correct then it is something very obscure.

Re: How to use your own router with O2 Broadband

Hi
Thanks for the advice. I did as you suggested and came home to find the Belkin router had finally connected - yay!

But then having set up the security on the router and restarted it, it's not connecting to the ADSL again. Will leave it for a few hours and see if it eventually connects but it seems odd when the o2 box connects within a few minutes

It's now been on for 5.5 hours and still not connected. Surely that's not normal? Groan.

No, that's not normal. Nor is it normal for the O2 box to take a few minutes - it should connect in a few seconds.

All I can suggest is that you ask O2 to investigate.

I'd also hazard that when they do finall connect, they are connecting slower than they should...I think a call into O2 customer services is in order.

Re: How to use your own router with O2 Broadband

I am a Premium user, using the O2 Wireless II router. I thought to upgrade the router to one that can provide wireless N. I ended up with a Linksys WRT610N. But today when I tried to install and configure it I find that I need to piggy-back it off the O2 Wireless II router. The WRT610N router does not have the correct connector for the broadband connection - instead it has an "internet" port with the standard ethernet connection.

I was expecting to be able to do a straight swap for the old O2 Wireless II router. I'm not particularly happy about having to power 2 routers and I'm not at all clear whether the functions/capacity of the O2 Wireless II router will somehow cap those of the Linksys WRT610N router.

What went wrong? I am now thinking of returning the Linksys WRT610N. What should I be looking for on the spec sheets in order to ensure that I can connect a new router directly?

Please help as I thought I'd done good research but I seem to have missed a very obvious question.

Re: How to use your own router with O2 Broadband

I'd return it if you can.

The key bit you missed when choosing that router was ADSL. You need a router that has an ADSL "modem" built in, just as your O2 box has.

Thanks for that swift advise. I was able to do some research and have now bought a Linksys WAG320N seems to be working nicely.

Re: How to use your own router with O2 Broadband

Hey

I want to bridge my O2boxII and use my Linksys as the main router but I cant get it to work.
The O2 box in bridged mode works fine when I directly connect it to my laptop via Ethernet, or one of the LAN ports in the Linksys. But I get no internet when I plug it into the WAN port.

I am using DD WRT and I have tried tons of settings, Mac cloning but still no internet. Anyone have any suggestions?
Could anyone explain the wan settings I am supposed to use in dd wrt?
