Originator's email address
Hi everybody. I am shortly about to migrate from Sky to O2 (standard home package) and am just researching my pc settings to prepare for the move. O2 is probably different from Sky in the way it works, so this question could be irrelevant, but here goes anyway.
I have several email accounts with various providers (yahoo etc) for both my wife and me and at present I pick them all up via Thunderbird. I have established that this will still be possible on O2. However, on Sky if I send email from any of these accounts, the Sky SMTP server shows them as originating from my main sky.com email address, which is a pain. I have overcome this by using the excellent skyusermail.com SMTP but this will not be possible once I switch. I was wondering if there is an equivalent service available from O2User - or does the o2 SMTP system work in a way that makes this unnecessary? Thanks for your help Keith |

Re: Originator's email address
why can't the Sky user SMTP server work?
The only problem I know of using o2 is that port 25 is blocked from use unless it is going from the o2 authenticated servers. When I use my paid for mail service I just use another port that is avaliable to me. Check with Newsreader or SatDish to see if there is another port avaliable. |

Re: Originator's email address
Hi Godzilla,
If you want to use different email address other than O2 on thunderbird, you can use the relay.o2broadband.co.uk as your outgoing mail server. Also just to let you know, when you’re sending an email from a specific email account, the from address is not altered by the server so for example if you send an email from xyz@gmail.com it will be send from xyz@gmail.com only. Hope this clarifies! Abhishek |

Re: Originator's email address
Thanks both of you. I shall try these suggestions when I get connected and come back if there is a problem. The reason I won't be able to use the skyuser server is that one of it's conditions is that it is restricted to sky broadband users.
Cheers |

Re: Originator's email address
Just a quick update. I was transferred to O2 this afternoon (VERY smoothly I have to say) and have verified that the originator's email address shown on messages sent through the O2 SMTP server are correct - ie they correctly identify the account that sent them, rather than the ISP email address, unlike Sky.
So there is no need to use the Skyuser SMTP server to fix it. Thanks again for your input Keith |
