How Do I Activate My o2 PAYG Sim Card?

I've recently purchased a Samsung B5310 Genio Slide phone on o2 and therefore purchased a PAYG sim card to go with it, earlier today.

I've put the sim in my phone and the "O2-UK" has come up on the screen, but whenever I try to ring my mobile number, I just get a long 'BEEEEEEEEEEP' noise, as if the number doesn't exist.

On the o2 sim card packaging it says "Must activate by 01 Dec 2011" but how exactly do I activate it?

I found "https://activatemysim.o2.co.uk/activateSim.do" on Google and tried to activate my sim via that website, but whenever I put in the number on the back of the sim which it asks for, I get the message "The sim card number that you have entered doesn't seem to be valid".

Do I need to top up the phone for it to become activated or something?

you just top up to activate the sim card, at the moment as it hasnt been topped up so it isnt active, therefore your not able to receive calls yet
