New speed tester

A new speed tester seems to be joining the throng. Found it on the official o2 site. Check it out "http://www.speed.io/index_en.html" , although I dont know how u verify whether a site is good apart from doing an immediate validation against a site you trust.

Re: New speed tester

Not seen that one before which is odd if you can believe the counter they have on the page - over 14 million tests

It seems to compare pretty well with what I believe my connection performance to be and if it can keep that up at peak times then you couldn't ask for much more. Good find.

Re: New speed tester

Looks like its based in Germany. Interesting to see how they perform the tests, check out "http://www.speed.io/faq_en.html".

There is also an interesting link to "http://www.maxmind.com/app/locate_my_ip" which shows the ISP location. Im in Bagshot, Surrey (GU19) yet it says my ISP is

United Kingdom
Region M1 (Slough)
Global Cities Slough
Latitude/Longitude 51.5000/-0.5833
ISP Be Un Limited
Organization Be Un Limited
Netspeed Cable/DSL
Domain Name bethere.co.uk

I'm quite away from Slough, I presume thats because it is the UK HQ for O2? and it doesnt distinguise O2 from Be, because it is the same circuit?

Re: New speed tester

The geoIP aasumes that the gateway you're connected to is where you live. You are currently connected to a gateway showing as being in Slough (mine shows as Manchester but I'm on the south coast).

As far as IP addresses are concerned, there's no way to currently differentiate between O2 and Be. They may have distinct IP ranges within their overall allocation but if they have, they're not publicly known in detail.
