Re: Run a speed test and post your results here
Here's a Tale of Two Routers ! Switched from Sky to O2 on 3 July, got my O2 health check OK email on 5 July.
With Sky I used to sync at a fraction over 4 Meg with S/N of 6, not bad with downstream attenuation of 59.5 (I'm in the sticks as far as the local exchange is concerned) BUT using the O2 router I was most disappointed, never saw sync higher than 2.7 Meg and often would resync at 2.3 Meg!! So today I reflashed the Sky router (Netgear 854GT) to latest standard Netgear firmware and lo and behold using this router sync was around 4.1 Meg at S/N 6.1 !!! Clearly I'm going to keep using the Netgear router (although it's wireless performance is worse than the Thomson box). Is this a common experience with the two boxes?? |

Re: Run a speed test and post your results here
No, not common. From reading members experience here and various other forums, maybe half get a marginal and occasionally significant improvement using alternative routers (esp Broadcom chipsets such as the DG834GT). Of the remainder, some get a little worse, some a lot worse and some the same. The difference you found is very unusual.
